3 Exciting new features in Squarespace - October 2017.
As October comes to a close, I wanted to share some exciting new features and updates announced in the last few weeks by Squarespace.
Squarespace already has everything you might need as a small business owner or entrepreneur, and they keep making improvements to make it better all the time.
Here are the latest updates to Squarespace.
Those who have a store on Squarespace listen up! This is big news.
If you have a commerce website, your customers can now create accounts on your site.
What does this mean exactly?
With this new feature, your customers can create accounts and securely save their addresses and payment methods, and they can also check the status of their orders.
That’s a major upgrade! One I’m sure your customers will really appreciate.
In order to enable this feature you must meet this criteria:
Be on a Commerce Basic or Advanced plan
Have SSL enabled with the preference set to Secure
Customer accounts work best with the following template families:
To enable customer accounts, go to Home > Settings > Customer Accounts (under the Commerce section). Switch the toggle to ON.
If you use a template other than those listed above, there are instructions for enabling customer accounts manually.
For all of the info on this update go to the Squarespace support page here.
Another great new feature for those with a Squarespace store is gift cards. And just in time for the holiday season!
If you are on the Advanced Commerce plan, you can now sell digital gift cards.
Every digital gift card has a unique code and customers can purchase gift cards for themselves or to be emailed to another recipient.
A few facts about the new gift cards:
- they are only available as a digital product, either as an email or printable PDF
- they will cover tax and shipping
- they don't have an expiration date
- they are non-refundable
Creating a gift card follows similar steps as creating a product on your e-commerce Squarespace website. For full instructions for creating gift cards, go here.
Form block reCAPTCHA
Due to high demand, you can now add Google reCAPTCHA to your form blocks. This will prevent and reduce spam.
Visitors will have to check a box before they can submit a form on your website, and in some cases they may have to complete another task to prove they are a real human.
To enable the new reCAPTCHA feature, go to Settings > Advanced > External Services. Scroll down to where it says GOOGLE RECAPTCHA and click the underlined link that says "Google reCaptcha API Keys".
In the new browser tab that opens, select reCAPTCHA V2 and enter your built-in Squarespace domain and all custom domains registered to your website.
Click "Register" and copy to your clipboard the Site key and Secret key on the page that shows up next.
Go back to the External Services window in Squarespace and paste the Secret key and Site key in the corresponding fields.
Click save and you're done.
Now when you add forms to your website, you will have the option to add Google reCaptcha by checking it in the Captcha tab of the EDIT FORM window.
*Note: Google reCAPTCHA only works with the domains you entered during the registration process. If you change your built-in Squarespace domain or connect a new domain to your site, you’ll need to add it to your API Key settings on Google.
These three new features will surely be welcome news for many Squarespace users. Which feature are you most excited about? Let me know in the comments.
